El Cid, born Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (c. 1043–1099), was a legendary Spanish knight, military leader, and national hero. 
Historical El Cid
- Born: Near Burgos, in northern Spain
- Nickname: “El Cid” comes from the Arabic al-Sayyid, meaning "The Lord"
- Served: Kings Sancho II and Alfonso VI of Castile
- Exiled: Built his own army and became a powerful warlord
- Conquered Valencia: Ruled from 1094 until his death in 1099
He was a brilliant tactician, navigating the politics of Christian and Muslim kingdoms alike. 
Legendary El Cid
