Where is the best place to stay in Granada for people in wheelchairs or with walking difficulty?
People often if Granada is a suitable tourist destination for people with walking difficulties. The honest answer is that Granada is quite a hilly city and is not the most advisable place to visit if you don't walk well. However, it is possible and in the article I will attempt to give you some advice.
Where to stay
The best place to stay is as close to Plaza Nueva as possible because it is a transport hub with buses and taxis. It is in the centre of the flattest area in Granada. If you look at the map above you can see the contour lines of Granada. In the centre you can see Plaza Nueva and then a straight line going up towards the left. That is the Gran Via (high street). That very straight road was created in around 1890 with a massive demolition program to provide easy access into the centre. If you are in a wheelchair the pavement is flat and even and is very easy to walk on. You can get a bus to the airport and to the bus and train station along this road. Plus the minubuses which can take wheelchairs will take you to other parts of Granada such as the Alhambra and the Alabicin. So Plaza Nueva and the Gran Via are the best places. Anywhere along the contour line that goes through Plaza Nueva is recommended for unfit people or people who don't walk well. See the bus routes
