
What is paella?
Paella is a traditional Spanish dish that is typically made of rice, vegetables, and some type of meat or seafood. The most common type of paella is made with chicken, shrimp, and chorizo sausage. Some versions may also include other ingredients such as beans, artichokes, peas, and peppers.
How do you make paella?
1. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat.
2. Add 1/2 cup of chopped onion and 1/2 cup of chopped red bell pepper and sautΓ© until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
3. Add 1 teaspoon of minced garlic and sautΓ© for 1 minute.
4. Add 2 cups of short-grain Spanish rice and stir-fry for 1 minute.
5. Add 4 cups of chicken broth, 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of saffron threads, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
6. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
7. Add 1/2 pound of large shrimp, 1/2 pound of mussels, 1/2 cup of frozen peas, and 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley.
8. Cover and cook for 5 minutes, or until the mussels open and the shrimp are cooked through.
9. Discard any mussels that donβt open.
10. Garnish with lemon wedges and serve
