RENFE is the main Spanish railway company.
The name "Renfe" comes from and acronym of Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles EspaΓ±oles β National Network of Spanish Railway.
Renfe operates a wide variety of services ranging from regional rural lines and commuter links to the modern, high-speed AVE intercity trains. The total route length of track in 2012 was 16,026 km of which 10,182 km is electrified.
Spain has a wide network of normal speed trains but in recent years a lots of high speed lines have been introduced. They are called AVE trains which is an acronym of (Alta Velocidad EspaΓ±ola) they link major cities at up to 186mph or 300km per hour.
