RENFE is the main Spanish railway company. 


The name "Renfe" comes from and acronym of Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles — National Network of Spanish Railway.

Renfe operates a wide variety of services ranging from regional rural lines and commuter links to the modern, high-speed AVE intercity trains.   The total route length of track in 2012 was 16,026 km of which 10,182 km is electrified.

Spain has a wide network of normal speed trains but in recent years a lots of high speed lines have been introduced. They are called AVE trains which is an acronym of (Alta Velocidad Española) they link major cities at up to 186mph or 300km per hour.
