WARNING:
THIS PAGE WILL MAKE NO SENSE IF YOU HAVE NO SENSE OF HUMOUR
This is a game you could play with your travelling partners while in Spain or anywhere. It could develop your thinking powers and provide some amusement for a while. It does not have to be about Spain. It could be a way to spend some minutes on a road trip or on a train in Spain.
What is the origin of the game?
Many years ago my wife Sarah studied Spanish in Wolverhampton UK. As part of the course it was necesary to live in a Spanish city for some months. One of Sarah's classmates had spent 3 months in Granada. Lots of misfortunes happened to her. She had a very strong northen UK accent. This means that the word "hate" is pronounced ate.
When asked what she thought of Granada she said.
I hate Granada
I hate the Alhambra
I hate culture.
Since that time Sarah and I have periodically played this game.
It is slightly more complicated that it sounds.
These are the rules of the game.
The three lines must be said in a vey strong accent.
Each person takes a turn.
Each line must be preceded by I hate but it could be I love.
(part of the humour comes from hating something that eveyone loves, you get extra points from hating good things)
All three words have to be connected.
For example
I hate Granada
I hate the Alhambra
I hate culture.
So the first line is a thing ie: Granada.
The second line is strongly associated with the first word
It is best if the third line is an abstract noun associated with the first 2 words.
An abstract noun is a noun that refers to an idea, quality, state, or concept—something that cannot be touched, seen, or physically measured, unlike concrete nouns (like "table" or "cat"). Some examples of abstract nouns are: love, anger, jealousy, honesty, courage, intelligence, freedom, chaos, peace, justice, truth, time.
I asked AI to come up with some examples:
The examples are good but many of the examples are bad things which lessens the humour. Really, it seems funnier to hate good things. This is not a game about complaining. So have a go yourself. Maybe get some brain exercise on a road trip.
